NSW Opposition Leader Luke Foley today proposed that NSW accept at least 5000 refugees as an emergency response to the unfolding crisis in Syria.
Mr Foley backed Federal Labor’s call for an additional 10,000 humanitarian places for refugees displaced by conflict in the Middle East as a one-off on top of Australia’s current intake of 13,750.
On account of our population size, NSW could accommodate at least half of a one-off intake of 10,000 displaced persons.
Mr Foley offered his bipartisan support to the Baird Government to accelerate the intake and relieve the suffering of those fleeing war and persecution.
